Lissa Merkel joined Club Soba in February 2015 after completing her Master of Social Work with concentration in mental health at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselor and is a registered Associate Clinical Social Worker in the State of California. Lissa also holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts in English. While earning her social work degrees, she worked at a state mental hospital providing individual and group therapy and also functioned as residential counselor at a private eating disorder clinic. After her MSW, Lissa earned with distinction the 18-month, 8-course Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling Certificate from UCLA Extension. She has also completed the Beck Institute core curriculum training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. In addition, she has completed training in Motivational Interviewing. Lissa brings both professional and personal experience to her position as Primary Therapist, having been motivated to pursue a career in recovery after losing a close friend to drugs and alcohol.
